Revdanda, one of the most popular historical places related to the era of Chhatrapati Shivaji, is located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. It first became popular when a Russian traveler, Afanasy Nikitin, first discovered this place. Later on the 23rd November 2000, a foundation stone was laid and a monument was erected in his glory.
Up until recent past, the road that goes from the South of the Alibaug used to end at this place near the Kundalika Creek. However, this route has now been extended via a bridge to Murud-Janjira. A part of Revadanda village is still located inside the Revdanda fort. One can also enter this fort through the entrance provided at the Revdanda beach.

This place is of a great historical and architectural importance as far as the Maratha reign is concerned. Portuguese Captain, Saoj was the man responsible for the construction of this architectural marvel. After its completion many Indian rulers, including the Marathas, tried to capture the fort, but were unsuccessful.
Datta Temple, located in Chaul part of Revdanda, is another important tourist destination that you do want to miss. It is situated atop a small hill of picturesque beauty. Devotees who want to visit this temple should climb approximately 800 stairs which are located on the hill side. It is medium in size and houses a pair of Lord Dattatreya’s “Padukas (sandals),” on a black stone.
Rameshwar Mandir is yet another tourist destination that is filled with devotees all the year long. It is one of the most ancient temples in India and is believed to be built by built by the Pandavas while they were in their 14 years of exile. How to reach Revdanda Beach?
Revdanda can be accessed both from Mumbai and Pune. While it is connected by road to Mumbai via Panvel, from Pune you can take the Lonavala route to Alibaug and continue to Revadanda, which is only a short distance away. The distance from Mumbai to Revdanda is about 108.5 km while from Pune, it is about 156 km.
